Dennis Fast > LIGHTNING LANDSCAPE.

Lightning is one of my favorite subjects on the prairies where I live, but I proceed with caution! The power of the storm is enhanced by the strong bolt of lightning, echoed in the distance by another, and by the relatively peaceful scene below that contrasts with the dynamic clouds.
Dennis Fast > BOREAL OWL IN SPRUCE TREE

The Boreal Owl is one of Canada's most elusive and sought after owls. Birders and photographers sometimes travel great distances for an opportunity to see and to photograph these tiny raptors. As a result, I consider myself most fortunate in having had the occasion to photograph this bird three times in my own back yard! This bird was revealed to me by screaming Blue Jays. After walking around the tree three times staring carefully into the higher branches near the trunk of the tree where they prefer to hide, I suddenly realized it was right in front of me at eye level!
Dennis Fast > POLAR BEAR RELAXING IN FIREWEED.

What could be more relaxed than a polar bear in a bed of "roses". The most amazing thing about it all was that he completely disappeared when he lay down amidst flowers that barely reached my thigh.
Dennis Fast > LEAVE ME ALONE!

In a typical wolf pack only the alpha male and female get to breed and produce young. Unfortunately, the alpha female was constantly flirting with the subordinate male above, which caused him much stress. If he didn't repel her advances he was going to get beat up by the alpha male! Life is tough even in a wolf pack.
Dennis Fast > GREAT GRAY OWL LAUNCH

When a Great Gray Owl hears the sound of a mouse or vole under the snow it launches into action. Its swift dive will plunge it several feet into the snow, if necessary, to catch its prey in its talons.
Dennis Fast > VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK, HAWAII.

Watching the hot lava flows of Mt. Kilauea in Hawaii was an awesome experience. The constantly changing, landscape-altering power of hot lava can only be appreciated while standing there at night and feeling the heat.
Dennis Fast > BOBCAT

The bobcat is a member of the lynx family and can be easily confused with the latter. The barring on the legs and shorter ear tufts of the bobcat are not always immediately apparent when only briefly glimpsed.
Dennis Fast > BARBARY LION PORTRAIT.

The Barbary lion has a remarkably serene but craggy face. His indifferent stare seems to be fixed more on the back of his mind then on what is going on before him. Through it all, though, he never forgets his regal ancestry.
Dennis Fast > NORTHERN LIGHTS CORONA.

Only twice in my life have I seen aurora as blood-red as this. If you ever see it, you will never forget it! Although we think of aurora as happening in the far North, this "cloud" of red actually appeared well to the Southeast of Southern Manitoba where I live.
