Dennis Fast > WARY GRAY WOLF. The "timber wolf" is one of the most admired and reviled animals in North America. Relentless pressure from man has made it a very wary animal. At the same time, I have been fortunate to call a number of wolves into the range of my lens by howling my greetings. It is a special thrill to howl in consort with a group of wolves, but even more exciting when they actually move closer.
Dennis Fast > PRAIRIE LIGHTNING. When I look at this photo it always feels to me like a giant bolt is stepping over the hills onto the plains below. I was thrilled to capture this lightning shot at sunset, which enhances the effect.
Dennis Fast > ARCTIC FOX Arctic foxes are incredibly curious, "tame", and playful. I watched for half an hour while this little guy ran two black lab dogs ragged teasing them into weary submission. I wasn't prepared to do the same when he made me the offer!

Dennis Fast > BOBCAT. The bobcat is very versatile in its choice of habitats and food. Although retiring by nature, bobcats are also known for occasional bold appearances in the presence of humans.
Dennis Fast > MALE POLAR BEARS RESTING AFTER A WRESTLING MATCH. In October, polar bears wrestle for mating status that will occur much later in the dark cold of an Arctic night. After a "friendly" pushing, slapping and biting match that may last for more than an hour, the two combatants lie down for a well-deserved nap.
Dennis Fast > STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT! This juvenile mountain lion and his buddy at Animals of Montana loved chasing each other in the snow. He may look a little cross here but he was actually having a great time. It was a real treat to be so close that I could make this photo with a wide-angle lens.
Dennis Fast > PRAIRIE CROCUS (ANEMONE PATENS) Flowers are often associated with emotions of various kinds. The soft blur in this image produces a feeling of well-being and romance. The misty look can be added with the discreet use of a filter in front of the lens, or a filter layer in photo-editing software. In any event, the resulting look creates an image that is great for a card, or for a peaceful mood on the wall that you won't tire of quickly.
Dennis Fast > THE WATCHER. Wolves, and other wild animals, have a knack for disguising themselves when they don't want to be seen. A frequent trick is to keep their eyes covered by branches to avoid their telltale roundness from showing. When this wolf peered out from the willows, I quickly moved to the right and knelt down for this photo to keep the twigs from crossing his eyes. It is exactly the way I have been stared at by animals in the wild who were trying not to be seen.
