NaturePhotographers > Dennis Fast  > Animals > BIRDS I HAVE KNOWN
My passion for photography began with an early love affair with birds. They are not only beautiful, but represent the freedom from the bonds of earth and gravity that has made mankind want to fly since time began. The more I watched birds, the more I wanted to photograph them, and I am sharing some of my favourites with you here.

Dennis Fast > GREAT GRAY OWL HOVER.

Watching a Great Gray Owl hunting voles over a field is a lesson in patience and opportunity. Like the owl, the photographer has to know when it's a good time to strike!
Dennis Fast > LONG-TAILED DUCK.

The soft "yodel" call of the long-tailed duck is known to anyone living in the far North. Not so well-known is it's striking winter plumage of black and white.
Dennis Fast > WHITE-THROATED SPARROW.

In the boreal forest, the plaintive "Oh Canada, Canada, Canada" song of the White-throated Sparrow is a familiar sound. Its natty appearance also endears it to everyone who knows it.
Dennis Fast > BALTIMORE ORIOLE.

Formerly known as the Northern Oriole (formerly known as the Baltimore Oriole), the Baltimore Oriole may have an identity crisis! By any name, it is one of our more spectacular birds.
Dennis Fast > BALD EAGLE NEAR NEST.

It is awe-inspiring to be near an eagle nest when the adults come in to feed their young. It was nearly sunset when this female approached the nest and gave me a fantastic landing shot.
Dennis Fast > ADULT BALD EAGLE.
Dennis Fast > WESTERN GREBE AT SUNRISE.
Dennis Fast > MALE EASTERN BLUEBIRD.
Dennis Fast > NORTHERN HAWK-OWL HOVER.
